1) Reflection on the Quarter 1 Theme.
2) Your Quarter 1 columnist Rhetorical Analysis Reflection
The columnist that I analyzed was David Brooks. He is a senior editor at the New York Times. The reason I chose David Brooks was because he had a deep understanding and interpretation of both politics and the technological era by that I mean he knows about the world around him a lot and is able to interpret into a serious issue. Throughout my analysis I found that he uses pathos and logos a lot in his works. He also uses diction and syntax to both add style to his writing.
3) Your Quarter 1 Novel, The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby literally achieved the American Dream. He Had everything the cars , the house, and the money. Throughout the text Gatsby always had everything but was missing that "love" or that connection with someone else that he didn't have with materialistic things. The text that I will be comparing is Jefferson's "Declaration Of Independence" and Elizabeth's "Declaration of Sentiments And Resolutions''. Both texts have this concept that the American dream involves "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Ultimately I do agree with Steinbeck's point that this allusion of the America Dream is what we all would like to achieve but not a lot of us can achieve so it becomes this restless cycle of achieving nothing but having hope that one day we will. Something I think that will bring people true satisfaction is love and happiness.
4) Your jefferson-Stanton Comparison Rhetorical Analysis Essay
For my next formal paper I will strive to explain my evidence more. I will also strive to explain my evidence more. I will also strive to relate both Stanton and Jefferson's claims to the main thesis. Another thing that I will work on is limiting my use of sentences that take up space and don't really have any purpose.
5) Your favorite Quarter 1 40-Minute Timed Write
My favorite timed write was the rhetorical analysis essay on Kennedys speech. My reason being was because I was able to find rhetorical strategies. I was also able to find how Kennedy was trying to make himself seem as if he was an average man but he was not a average man in fact he was very wealthy. I think that this was my favorite because I truly felt as thought this was a time in which I was able break apart a complex text.
6) QUARTER 1 REFLECTION
In quarter one I learned the different types of rhetorical strategies and how to really apply them when writing. The most meaningful assignment we did was the essay breakdown and how to apply them when writing them. The most meaningful assignment was the outside of the classroom. I gained the most from taking notes on the essay breakdown. I wish we had skipped this website assignment. In quarter two I wont dread anything or hope not to because I did sign up for this class.
